HOBBIES


We all suffer from stress from time to time, but if we learn to manage it, we can prevent it from taking over our entire life. This is where hobbies can play a big role.

Hobbies offer more than just fun since activities for our body and mind are good for our health. How we fill our free time is up to us, and we just have to supply the interest and time to reap the benefits. 

I have learned to regulate the stressors in my life before they start affecting my sense of well-being.  Here are some of the things that I do:
 
1, I go for long walks with my dog (and with a camera).
2. I practice Yoga
3. I go for a massage
4. I collect owls and post cards
5. I do Sudoku and crossword puzzles
6. I try to be creative - I take out my gear and draw, paint or do collages.

My Hobby - Drawing and Painting

My drawing talents are nothing much and will most definitely never make me famous but what they do for my well-being is immeasurable and priceless.

You are so talented look at those paintings and drawings? My mouth waters when I see this kind of talent..Keep it up for all the reasons you have suggested above, and because you do have talent as well.

Hi Dani, The two on top are watercolours, the watering can and african violet one is pastel and the other two are just pencil. I should have added photography with my walks with Dexter. Thanks for the flattering comments.

I don't think you 'try' to be creative, you are being creative, no trying about it. Why would you want to be famous? I wish I could draw pictures like you do. I imagine it is a very relaxing hobby, for your mind is only focused on the paper sheet in front of you and the pencils you use.
I love your drawings. You do hang them in your house, don't you?

Looking at your artworks, I can easily see how good artist eyes you have and how much talent yours is! My late parents were both closely related to art, so I was brought up in an art-breathing atmosphere. I do really appreciate your style! I wish I could see them in person and buy one...

Hi Mona, No, there's no special theme. I collect all postcards. I have over 200 which is not a lot as I've been collecting them for a long time. Some of them I have bought while traveling, others were sent to me by friends and family when they traveled. Some older ones are in a b ooklet form that holds anywhere from 5 to 10 post cards. It's a fun thing to do I find.

Apparently yes, that does count. I was told that if you can do stick people you can draw and paint and that applies to everyone. You're already ahead because you can do animals. lol

Hi Gerda, My father was a very good artist and I learned a lot from just watching him. My art class teacher in high school was pushing me very hard to go into that field but I knew I wouldn't do well for two reasons: one, I knew I would not dedicate my life to my art and second, I didn't think it was very lucrative and I was more attracted by the business world.
Thank you for your nice comments. No, I don't hang them in my house. I don't really know why but it's probably because I don't think they're good enough.

Maybe you compare them to the wrong people, there will always be people who are better than you. It's a shame you don't hang them in your house. I think you can be quite proud of what you've achieved by the looks of it. Or don't you enjoy looking at your own art?

I know the place well ... I was raised there, and my son took his drawing lessons at *la petite École Jaune*. Beautiful town.

Oh Lise you are way to modest... those drawings/paintings are beautiful !! My father is an amazing artist also... Unfortunately, the gene skipped a generation LOL (I'm glad my son picked it up). I'm a fan of Sudoku myself.. great hobby's!

How about that! What a small world. Deux-Montagnes is a great little town, we've been here since 1980 and we love it.
Le Petite Ecole Jaune is a wonderful place. I'm so glad that the city has preserved it and is using it. Last Fall, I entered a photo of it for the city 2008 Calendar. It was accepted and it is on the September page.

I never compare what I do to what other people do, never. I am my own worst critic and a perfectionist, so I'm very hard on myself. I tend to find everything that is wrong with my work instead of concentrating on what is good. I'm working on this and trying to accept my work for what it is. This blog is my first attempt at showing something I've done and it wasn't easy for me to do this. It makes me feel very vulnerable and wide open. I don't know if you understand what I mean.

I love your art work. I clicked on it and went to flickr... I love the plate with the mother and child. You are very talented... my siblings and my father could draw and my son has great artistic talent. He does beautiful tattoo's... but I can't do that , I am creative in my media-- Fabric.

Yes, I understand. I guess the paintings are very much a part of yourself and showing them is also showing some inner part of yourself. Or so I would imagine. I think it very brave of you to do so. Especially for picture perfect, since those posts are visited by so many people.
Keep it up though! I would love to see your work every now and then on multiply.

Lovely! I've never been able to do any painting with anything other than watercolor. I work to slowly with materials and I want to fuss with it endlessly before I let it go. Everything turns to mud on me, but certainly not on you! The picture in the back looks absolutely charming; it pulls my eye and mind right in. You have a lot of talent!
